The Smartview Matrix System I have been testing (these are prototypes) offers another unique advantage – It can be used as a rubber dam clamp at the same time, eliminating a large, clumsy piece of equipment that used to be essential when using a rubber dam (which makes composite filling placement significantly easier).
Using a rubber dam during the placement phase of the composite filling really is the standard of care. Moisture contamination is one of the main reasons composite (white) fillings fail (including sensitivity).
How does it work?
Well, the unique retentive arm of the Smartview Matrix System works great at holding the rubber dam down! As you can see from the above photo the tooth is in clear view and easy to work on. The mesial (front) part of the rubber dam is held in place with a simple piece of floss.
I love products that solve more than one problem at once! Maybe it’s time to loose those old rusty rubber dam clamps…
